Senior Prescription Drug Assistance Program (SPDAP) Overview

The Senior Prescription Drug Assistance Program (SPDAP) is a subsidy program established by the Maryland General Assembly in 2005 to provide financial assistance to moderate-income Maryland residents who are eligible for Medicare and are enrolled in a prescription drug plan.

SPDAP is overseen by the Maryland Department of Health. International Software Systems Inc. administers this program for the Maryland Department of Health.

Eligibility Requirements

To participate in the Senior Prescription Drug Assistance Program, individuals must meet the following eligibility requirements:

  • Show residency in Maryland for at least six months
  • Be a Medicare recipient
  • Have an income at or below 300% of the Federal Poverty Level.

Maryland Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC)

The Maryland Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) is a benefit for working people with low to moderate income. If you qualify for the Federal Earned Income Tax Credit and claim it on your federal return, you may be entitled to the Maryland EITC on your state return equal to 50% of the federal tax credit you have received.
